Finger Painting and Paper towel Butterflies

My pictures are out of order and are not dragging to the correct places SO....to follow our little butterfly project just follow the numbered pictures. :) SORRY!

Pic #3 Butterflies: Here are the butterflies drying out on the table, waiting to be twisted with pipe cleaners.
Pic #1 Butterflies: C So here are the boys with some food colored water and paper towels, ready to make their butterflies.

Pic #2 Butterflies: We folded the paper towels into 16ths and dipped corners in whatever colors they choose. After you dip them it's good to squeeze some of the excess water out over the bowl.
Onto a day we invited 4 neighbor friends over for finger painting. Jayden (1o) measured and mixed the ingredients for the finger paints and it took about 15 minutes on low heat for it to thicken up. It felt like forever. :) Here are the ingredients I got from Slow and Steady Get Me Ready : 3 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup cornstarch and 2 cups water. I then separated small amounts in old baby food containers to make different colors in.
They "painted" on wax paper that was taped to the table. When they were finished they took white typing paper and pressed it on top for an imprint of their work. It was definitely more about the journey than the destination on this one!
Pic #4 Butterflies: Back to the butterflies! Here they are finished, hanging in the playroom. I'm kind of ghetto and just used masking tape but you could be cuter about it I'm sure.

I need to get more ideas and come over sometimes soon.....we're going to Bear Lake this weekend and we're kind-of busy until then...but maybe the NEXT week when Braden is gone to Texas for his interview...?? Yah--I think Avin's new Big-Boy-Haircut really makes him look older! Fun artsy-crafty pictures!! Can't believe you invited FOUR extra kids over for that!! Impressive!!

and P.S. Masking tape is good. You don't want to punch holes in your ceiling for little temporary fun things like this. Plus they aren't heavy so the tape is perfect!
